Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori ), is a causative agent for
gastric damage and has been linked to many diseases, including gastritis,
peptic ulcer, and gastric malignancies, since its identification in 1982.
Though half of the world’s population is infected with H. pylori , only
approximately 30 percent of the infected people are symptomatic with more than
70 percent of them remaining asymptomatic.
Seroepidemiological research studies
are consistent with the hypothesis that H. pylori infection is mainly acquired
in early childhood and that primary acquisition or reinfection after successful
eradication in adults occur less frequently with an annual incidence of 6%-14%
